Privacy Policy
In short: BackTalk has no account and no servers. Your conversation goes directly from one phone to the other and is never recorded or stored. We do not collect, sell or share personal data.

Your conversation
When two phones are connected, the sound from each phone's microphone is sent directly to the other phone over a Wi-Fi Direct link and played in that person's headset. It does not pass through the internet or any server, and it is not recorded, saved or sent to us. Only a phone that knows your 6-digit pairing code can join the link.
The sound test records 3 seconds of audio into the phone's memory, plays it back to you and then discards it. It is never saved to storage or sent anywhere.
What stays on your phone
- Settings: your role (rider or passenger), the pairing code, microphone and sound settings, and how much of the free riding time has been used.
- Technical logs: to find and fix problems, the app writes technical logs to its own folder on the phone. They contain app events, connection and audio-level statistics (not audio), your phone model and Android version, and the name of the connected Bluetooth headset. The app keeps the 20 most recent log files; you can delete older ones in Settings → "Clear old logs", and uninstalling the app deletes everything.
This data is not backed up by the app and is not sent to us automatically.
Diagnostics you choose to send
Settings → "Send diagnostics" packs the technical logs into a zip file and prepares an email to [email protected] with the zip attached and your app version, phone model, Android version and role (rider or passenger) filled in. You can read and edit the email, choose another app, or cancel; nothing is sent unless you send it yourself. We use such logs only to fix problems and delete them when they are no longer needed.
Purchases
The Pro upgrade is sold through Google Play. Payment is handled entirely by Google; we never see your card or payment details. The app only asks Google Play whether this Google account owns Pro. Google's privacy policy applies to the purchase: policies.google.com/privacy.
Permissions and why
- Microphone: to send your voice to the other phone, and for the sound test.
- Nearby devices / Wi-Fi (on Android 12: location): required by Android to create the Wi-Fi Direct link between the two phones. BackTalk does not use or store your location.
- Bluetooth: to route sound to your Bluetooth headset or helmet unit.
- Notifications and foreground service: to keep the intercom running with the screen off and show the Mute and Disconnect buttons.
- Battery optimization exemption (optional): so the phone does not cut the link when the screen turns off.
No tracking
The app contains no advertising, no analytics and no third-party tracking. This website sets no cookies and uses no analytics; it is served by Cloudflare, which processes technical request data (such as IP address) to deliver the page.
Children
BackTalk is not directed at children under 13.
Your rights and changes
Because we don't hold personal data about you, there is usually nothing for us to access or delete; everything the app keeps is on your phone and is removed when you uninstall it. If you sent us diagnostics and want them deleted, write to [email protected]. If this policy changes, the new version will be published on this page with a new date.
